Essential Oils and Wellness Products, Essential Wellness with Shayla
You may be asking, "Why would anyone want to make their own baby powder when you can just buy it?" This is a great question, with a good answer. In recent years, juries have been awarding millions of dollars to victims of ovarian cancer. According to THIS ARTICLE, one of the most popular and well known baby powders is being held responsible.
I recently scanned this baby powder with the Think Dirty app. Here are the results.
For those unaware, a carcinogen label means something has "the ability" or "tendency" to cause cancer. That's all the reason I need to keep the stuff off my babies!
Making your own baby powder is actually super easy, and it only takes a few minutes. It's also pretty affordable!
A word of caution about the essential oil you use for this; I have personally researched and tried several essential oils companies, and sadly not all oils are created equal. One of the companies I tried advertised pure, therapeutic essential oils, yet I've seen the oils break people out in hives, and later I learned the company was called out for synthetics in their oils. Recently another company selling on Amazon was sued because their "100 pure essential oil" didn't actually contain any essential oil at all in the bottle! According to THIS REPORT "GC test results prove their oils are synthetic fake and harmful for your health." Keep in mind the label said 100% pure.
Also, you can join THIS FACEBOOK GROUP to see some other companies that have been sued.
Here's the thing; some of the chemicals used to cut essential oils (a common practice) are flat out unsafe, and nothing that should ever be put on a child or infant. So please, please don't use just any essential oil. Play it safe and stick with Young Living, if in doubt watch their Seed to Seal promise (posted below).
With that said, here's a little tutorial on how I make our baby powder! Enjoy!
